Are you finding it challenging to make an impact with your marketing and copy? As a creative, I’ve learned a lot over the years, but you might be surprised to find out that one of my earliest sources of inspiration was none other than Snoop Dogg.
Let me tell you a story. Back when I was in junior school, I remember my teacher assigning us a task that involved creating sentences using a list of words she provided. At first, the words were simple – happy, sad, look – but as the list progressed, it got trickier, and my teacher thought she’d thrown us a curveball with the word “captivating.”
But not me! Without hesitation, I jotted down the words:
“I got the cultivating music that be captivating he.” Pretty impressive, right?
The test ended, and we moved on to other activities while the teacher was grading our papers. But as I was doodling a rocket car, she approached me, curious about my poetic display of wordplay. “Chaten, how did you come up with this?” she asked.
Caught off guard, I confessed that I had heard it in a song. Luckily, she didn’t ask which song it was, or else I would’ve had to reveal my love for Snoop Dogg’s “Gin & Juice” at the ripe age of 10.
And that’s the story of how Snoop Dogg accidentally became my mentor (although please don’t tell my mom I listen to him). Looking back, I realise that this funny encounter taught me an invaluable lesson about marketing and copywriting:
- Don’t be so formal
- Be intelligent
- Be creative
- Tell a story
Today, my work at Conceptstore goes beyond design; I’m helping clients take their marketing game to the next level by refining their core messages and crafting truly compelling content, expertly designed to drive results and set them apart from the competition.
